Why do people pay $1,200 for a B&B exhaust when you can buy an exhaust for a Civic for $200? Or even an $800 exhaust for the Z for that matter? You know the answer. The consumer in general has no idea what kind of time and money goes into a new product not to mention that comparing our cars to other cars is ludicrous because our cars are NOT the same. For one, they've always been considered to be more expensive to mod than most others. We have two of everything. Price out the cost of a quality, reputable downpipe or exhaust manifold on an inline 6 Supra motor and then double it because we have TWO of said parts. The cost is still less than double though, isn't it? Not to mention, most of the parts we now are blessed with are far less expensive than they used to be. Were you even around when downpipes were $600? When JSPEC tail lights were $700 for just the outside lenses? Everything comes down eventually because the process gets cheaper or competitors enter the picture but don't forget that the initial costs are ALWAYS high. It just annoys me that the timespan for things to come down in price is minute now because ideas are copied and inferior replications are made within 1/10th the time. I do think people should get patents if they are going to live and die by the particular product, there's no argument there but all I'm saying is that we wont get nearly the stream of good, quality products if this tradition keeps up. Who is going to want to spend the time and money when they'll be undercut legally or illegally. I guess that's just how it is.
